Peter Grimes

Peter Grimes

Benjamin Britten

Peter Grimes, a fisherman, has lost his apprentice at sea. The court acquits Grimes, but in the eyes of the villagers he is guilty.

Britten's eulogy on the high seas is a grand psychodrama, where the double moral standards that exist in the small community of an English fishing village lead to the destruction of an individual. The opera has been a great success in London ever since it was premiered. This production, with sets and costumes designed by Tazeena Firth of Britain, realistically evokes the atmosphere of a fishing village.
