Madama Butterfly

Giacomo Puccini

Pinkerton, an American officer stationed in Japan, purchases a young girl to be his wife. After his departure, Cio-Cio-San or Butterfly, as she is known, has a baby and patiently waits for her husband to return. But when he does return, he comes to take the child away with him and his new wife.

The music in Madama Butterfly is incredibly beautiful and heart-achingly poignant. Elisabet Strid and Judith Howarth appear as Cio-Cio-San.
