Juha (2011)

Aarre Merikanto

Juha is the age-old story of a love triangle between an older man, his young wife and a handsome courter. Set for the first time in a modern setting, this new production of the 1911 Finnish opera directed by Anna Kelo reveals just how timeless the Juha story is.

Witness how the heroine's trip with her seducer from a petrol station to a glamorous night club changes into a Russian roulette game of life or death. This new production of the powerful Finnish classic is destined to astonish and delight.

The lead female role will be sung by soprano Camilla Nylund, whose recent vivid performance in Die töte Stadt enchanted audiences. Juha will be portrayed by Finnish baritones Jaakko Kortekangas and Tommi Hakala, with tenor Jyrki Anttila as the charmer Shemeikka.
