The new production by the Finnish National Ballet features urban energy, brilliant movement and macabre humour. All the works on this triple bill are being performed for the first time in Finland. They all praise a dancer's body in all its dimensions, energy and skills, each with its own approach.
Natalia Horecna, who created a prominent career as prima ballerina at the Hamburg Ballet and at the Nederlands Dans Theater, has been acclaimed for her choreographies by audiences and critics alike. She combines the movement language of classical ballet with powerful emotional expression and also loves dark comedy.
Jacopo Godani is a world-famous Italian dancer and choreographer who has created works for instance for the Nederlands Dans Theater and the Royal Danish Ballet. His intensive and explosively energetic Spazio-Tempo was premiered by the Semper Oper Ballet in 2010.
Glass Pieces by Jerome Robbins was premiered by the New York City Ballet in 1983. Its music consists of extracts from the composition of the same name by Philip Glass, the master of minimalism who charmed audiences at the Helsinki Festival in 2013. Robbins combines postmodern dance with the movement language of classical ballet in a showcase of urban energy.
