Götterdämmerung

Götterdämmerung

Richard Wagner

The curse visited on gods and men will not depart the world until the coveted Ring returns to the Rhinemaidens. In Götterdämmerung, the power struggle is finally resolved: the Ring is purified and the power-hungry plunge to their deaths.

Götterdämmerung, The Twilight of the Gods, is the culmination of the Ring cycle. The characters and narratives of the three previous operas come together, and every scene is pregnant with meaning. The opera is famous for its orchestral interludes, and the Leitmotifs that have developed throughout the cycle reinforce the narrative nature of the music.

The other parts of the cycle are Das Rheingold, Die Walküre and Siegfried.
