Dance Battle (Season 2012-13)

Created by Star Dancer Minna Tervamäki specifically for young audiences, Tanssimatsi (Dance Battle) returns to Almi Hall in February. Its movement language is based on classical ballet but also draws on sources as varied as salsa, show dancing and hip hop - and above all the joy of dancing that every dancer delights in.

"Dancing is often a competition of some kind. Dancers compete for jobs in auditions and for roles in their jobs. The setting in this production is an audition, but it is a dance match with a twinkle in its eye," the choreographer says. "Competition notwithstanding, each and every dancer has the love of dance, the joy of expression and the ability to become immersed in the magical world of the stage."
