Ballet workshop

Dancers of the Finnish National Ballet will present their choreography skills in a Ballet Workshop scheduled for mid-October in the Almi Hall. The event will feature two performances of seven new works of original choreography. The programme features work from dancers whose choreography is familiar from earlier works, in addition to premiere performances of works from several new young international dancers for the National Ballet.

The evening will begin with new choreography from Jani Talo and Terhi Räsänen entitled Fallen, followed by a work from the young Spanish dancer Sergi Nicolau Castellanos called Stabat Mater. Next, Emrecan Tanis, a native of Turkey, presents his original work called Nefes. Choreography from Stanislav Beljajevski, Je suis malade, is featured next, followed by a work from Auri Ahola called Butterfly Tempo Mental Weather and another from Anandah Kononen called La Banda Sonora. The evening concludes with Aapo Siikala's Dinner For My Sailor.

The Ballet Workshop performances are varied, ranging anywhere from three-minute solos to half-hour ensemble works for 13 dancers. The majority of the National Ballet dancers and dance apprentices are scheduled to perform at the event, in addition to guest dancer Riku Lehtopolku and the current Finnish National Ballet dance master Francis Guardia. Music featured throughout the evening ranges from Beethoven and Pergolesi to Mariza and The Gypsy Kings.
