La voix humaine & The Bear

A double bill of one-act operas dealing with large issues on a small scale. In La voix humaine, a breakup leads to tragedy, while in The Bear two people unexpectedly find each other. An evening with both heartache and liberating laughter.

 

Onegin

Onegin by choreographer John Cranko is returning to the FNB after almost ten years of absence. Cranko's interpretation of the sad story by Alexander Pushkin is considered one of the finest full-length narrative ballets of the 20th century.

The Snow Queen

Kenneth Greve's ballet for the whole family is based on the tale by H.C. Andersen from 1845. The Music was composed by Tuomas Kantelinen.

 

Requiem

Overwhelming emotion, profound music and achingly beautiful melodies combine to produce one of the most impressive works of sacred music ever written. The colossal Requiem has with reason been described as Verdi's best opera.

A cleaning woman at the popular soup restaurant dreams of waiting on tables, and she finally has the chance to try her wings. What will happen to poor Sofia? Photo Soup is a contemporary dance work for 6 to 9 year old children.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Young lovers are confused about who should be in love with whom, and the Queen of the Fairies falls in love with an ass, who is actually a person. Everything is possible in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

 

Aida

Military commander Radamès inadvertently betrays his country because of his love for Aida. The lovers are joined in death. This Egyptian story inspired Verdi to write some of his most brilliant music, resulting in one of the finest operas of all time.

 

Sibelius as Storyteller
