Making Music with the Masters

Richard Strauss 150th anniversary

Richard Strauss established himself as the leading opera composer of his day with Salome and Der Rosenkavalier. His sparkling orchestration and lovely melodies continue to enchant opera audiences.

 

Requiem

Overwhelming emotion, profound music and achingly beautiful melodies combine to produce one of the most impressive works of sacred music ever written. The colossal Requiem has with reason been described as Verdi's best opera.

 

Grand Choral Gala

The Chorus of the FNO acquired its present formation 70 years ago. To celebrate the anniversary, a Grand Choral Gala will be held in spring 2015.

The programme features Johannes Brahms's monumental work Ein deutsches Requiem, with soprano Martina Rüping and baritone Jaakko Kortekangas as soloists and Brahms' Alto Rhapsody, featuring mezzo-soprano Lilli Paasikivi as soloist.
